Are you the kind of girl that hates lying around on the beach all day doing nothing? Well, how about taking a summer skiing holiday this year instead? Who wants to be nursing sunburn and drinking sangria in a dodgy Spanish cocktail bar when they could be drinking mulled wine in one of the hippest ski resorts in the Southern Hemisphere?
So where are the best places to go? Well, if South America is good enough for a beach holiday or a city break, then why not go there for a ski break? One of the best and most up and coming summer ski destinations is Chile, which is fast developing an exciting ski industry in the Andes Mountains!
The main season runs from June to October, although you should get reasonable ski conditions between May and November. The main resorts are Portillo and Valle Nevado and they offer some of the best scenery in the world. And don’t worry - even over the equator they operate the good old green, blue, red and black classification of slopes!
Next on our list is New Zealand. It's a long way to go but it's well worth the effort. New Zealand has a multitude of exciting resorts, for instance Cardrona and Treble Cone on South Island and Turoa and the enormous Whakapapa ski area on North Island. And once you've satisfied your ski habit, why not hire a campervan and explore the country's beautiful scenery, towns and cities?
Next door to New Zealand, Australia has a surprising number of excellent ski domains which can be accessed in our summer months. These range from Charlotte Pass in New South Wales, which was the the very first Aussie ski resort to be established way back in the early 1900's, to the modern and popular Falls Creek in Victoria.
