Hotels
Bruges has over 100 hotels, catering for all tastes and budgets. In the city centre you will find small but luxurious hotels in beautifully restored old buildings together with cheaper but equally well-located hotels guest houses. Most of the city centre hotels are small privately-run establishments with no more than 20 rooms. Because almost everyone in the hotel business speaks English you should have no problems when booking a room. Many hotels have family rooms which children can share with their parents and most rooms have telephones and TV. A lot of hotels in Bruges are in narrow, tall buildings (very typical of Bruges ) and have narrow steep, winding stairs to the upper floors. So, if you are disabled or travelling with someone who is disabled, it is advisable to visit the Bruges website at www.brugge.be to get information about the hotels which offer disabled facilities.
Some hotels, for example, have rooms on the ground floor. Although the majority of hotels include breakfast in the price of the room do check when you book or else you may find that your stay costs considerably more than you thought. What you get for breakfast will depend on where you are staying but expect simple rolls and coffee at the lower-priced hotels. Staying in the middle of town is certainly the best way to experience the city but unless you are in a room with double glazing be prepared for the clatter of traffic and horse-drawn carriages on the cobbled streets. For some, though, this may simply add to the charm. Because motorists are not encouraged in the city centre and parking on the streets is very limited, it is worth checking whether the hotel you choose has its own car park or whether there is a public car park close by.
