When choosing Christmas gifts for baby, the important thing is to remember that the little one is growing and changing every day. This means that if you really can’t resist buying cute shoes and clothing as a first present, it is probably a good idea to buy them a little bigger so that they last longer.
It also means that there is no real need to spend a fortune on baby gifts. Instead, choose gifts that will keep the little one entertained to minimise tears and tantrums on Christmas day, something that mummy and daddy are sure to thank you for!
Soft, cuddly toys and teddy bears usually make ideal gifts for babies up to six months of age. At this time of life it seems that everything inevitably ends up in babies’ mouths, so items without sharp edges and without small parts that could be accidentally swallowed are best.
Babies, toddlers and children are naturally inquisitive, so a selection of toys and games in bright colours and interesting shapes will help to keep them amused and entertained for hours.
Once baby starts teething, it would be a good idea to buy them rattles and teethers that are safe and chewy enough for baby to bite. It is possible to find rattles that look great as well as serve an important purpose. There all sorts of colours to choose from and in all sorts of designs, but the most important thing is that they are 100% safe for baby.
Around the time that baby starts to show a few pearly whites, it is also usually time for the little one to start walking. Why not buy baby something to help him or her along the way? Wooden toddle trucks are ideal; they are easy to push along and also hold a selection of wooden blocks for baby to play with. However, if baby is still too young to walk, then one excellent gift idea is an Activity Crawling Path, which are available from a number of retailers including the Early Learning Centre. There are lots of activities along the way, including mirrors, scrunchies and bright shapes and colours. These accessories not only encourage babies to crawl, but will keep them entertained for hours, too.
