Celtic Wedding Rings, Celtic Knot Designs and Claddagh Wedding Bands

The Celtic tribes were once spread throughout Europe but ended up settling in parts of Scotland , Wales , Cornwall and Ireland , and nowhere have Celtic traditions been better preserved than in Ireland . Celtic designs are very strong and distinctive, and are popular for tattoos and jewelry. Celtic wedding rings can be made out of different metals such as silver, gold or titanium. Silver wedding rings are usually made of sterling silver, which is an alloy of silver with copper as pure silver is too soft for jewelry. Gold wedding rings come in different colors such as white gold for a silvery look, the standard yellow gold, or rose gold which is slightly pink and coppery. These metals can be combined for a two-tone look. The pattern for the ring can be embossed on a flat metal band and having the design in gold on a silver background differentiates the design from the background. Celtic wedding rings can also be set with gems such as diamonds, but this is less common. Rings with a smooth, polished design in relief on a textured background are look good as the design stands out against the background.

The original Claddagh ring was a gold ring made by a young man for his sweetheart while he was a slave in Africa . Eventually he managed to leave to return home to Ireland to present his gift to the girl who was still waiting for his return. Thus the Claddagh design represents enduring love, making it very appropriate for a wedding ring.

Rings are available in 'comfort fit' which means that the edges are rounded to make them more comfortable to wear. Tapered rings are wider on the top of the finger and narrower on the part that is on the underside of the finger, making it more comfortable when bending the fingers. Tapered rings allow the top part of the ring to be wider than normal (up to 13mm).
