When a company is named after the mythical Nordic god of warriors, you know it means business. The TYR swimsuit and swimwear range are designed for competitive swimmers by swimmers, important when the suit you’re wearing can make a split second of difference.

Founded in 1985, TYR (pronounced ‘tier’) swimsuits are designed around the swimmer – and the people there are qualified to know what they’re talking about. The company’s Executive Vice President, Steve Furniss, was captain of the 1976 U.S. Olympic swim team. International Vice President Hans Fassnacht is a member of the International Swimming Hall of Fame.

Racing swimsuits are TYR’s lifeblood. Race wear for men is available in trunks, briefs, and knee length shorts. The women’s range boasts the ‘workout bikini’ and one piece suits. But for a serious technological innovation TYR introduced the Aqua Shift for the 2004 Olympics. The full length suit was tested over two years at the Center for Research and Development in Special Environments at the University of Buffalo, and the result was some very futuristic racing gear.

TYR swimsuits are worn by Yana Klochkova, the Ukranian voted Swimming World magazine’s female swimmer of the year in 2004. Triathletes Wendy Ingram and Chris Hauth wear TYR gear while tackling some of the world’s toughest ironman courses. And in a move away from the pool, TYR also designed and customized that famous red swimsuit worn by the cast of Baywatch throughout the show’s entire run.

While leisure wear is an element of TYR swimsuits, their casual designs still retain the functionality of the company’s racing suits. Water aerobics and yoga gear features in their range for women. The recent ‘My Pearl’ range is feminine and a nod to more relaxed pursuits, with suits in apple green, turquoise and peach. You’ll find halter tops, belted bikini bottoms, cover up skirts and bandeaus to buy for the beach.
