If you hate tan lines on your body but can’t quite get up the nerve to bare all at a nudist beach, a tan through swimsuit could be the answer. Thanks to advances in fabric technology both men and women can tan evenly and safely all over while spending time at the beach.

Most tan through swimsuits are made from lightweight fabrics with thousands of tiny, mesh pores in the material. These holes act as protection and filter from the sunlight, meaning your covered body isn’t exposed to as many rays - whether it's a men's or women's swimsuit.

Tanning Swimsuits Unmasked

A high percentage of spandex in the fabrics produces a tight, close weave. These fabrics let light through while acting as a medium level sunscreen, normally between SPF6 and SPF 10. Their composition also means that they’re light, dry rapidly and allow skin to breathe.

If you can tan through it you must be able to see through it, right? A lot of people worry that their tan through swimsuit will become transparent after swimming or in the sunlight. This isn’t a problem because the fine mesh these swimsuits are made of creates an opaque effect when it’s on your body. The crotches of these suits are lined for extra reassurance.

For an even tan to be achieved while you’re wearing a tan through swimsuit, the SPF on your skin will have to match the sun protection your suit provides. If you are in a particularly hot climate the sun protection provided by a tan through swimsuit may not protect you from burning. In this case extra sun protection may be necessary.

Tan through swimsuits are available for both men and women, but there is not a great deal of variety when it comes to buying these suits. They aren’t available to purchase in dark or block colors. Women’s tan through suits are one pieces and bikinis and men’s mostly briefs or shorts – all available in loud colors and prints.
