Learning to swim is an integral part of most kid’s lives, and it can be difficult. Experience using flotation devices can give them confidence in the water from an early age, making learning to swim that little bit easier.

• Swim belts tie buoyant blocks around a child’s middle, which can be removed as their confidence grows.
• Back floats are worn similarly to backpacks in the water, fixed with a belt and buckle around the shoulders.
• Swim vests are a good option: not as buoyant or bulky as a life jacket.

There’s no end of swim caps if your child’s a promising swimmer or you just want them to keep their hair dry. Silicone caps stretch easily for increased comfort while still keeping a secure fit towards the bottom of the head. Latex caps don’t pull or snag hair. And if you’re keen to make a style statement pick up a synchronised swimming style cap – covered in latex flowers. Lots of these are made with chin straps to keep them in place.
