Are Wholesale Sunglasses Cheaper?

If you are setting up as someone who wishes to sell sunglasses one of the first things you will want to do is to establish a relationship with a supplier of wholesale sunglasses.

Some people think that getting something wholesale means that you can get it cheaper than retail – but actually in some product groupings that isn’t quite true. Wholesale means to sell something to a retailer who intends to resell it. You would expect that a retailer would be able to buy something from wholesale suppliers cheaper than he can buy from another retailer. However, the advent of “hyper” retailers – the big grocers and DIY stores for instance have put paid to that in certain product categories. You would have a tough time for example finding birch veneered plywood cheaper at a wholesale supplier than at a “big dog” retailer warehouse. But the retailers would not be able to supply you with the same level of technical support of accurate product information – so you should shop around eagerly and check what you are buying whoever you buy from.

When you start out trying to source wholesale sunglasses, you may have some trouble establishing credibility with some of the wholesale suppliers, and you may have to pay cash or personal cheque at first. They want proof on paper that you will pay for their bulk product and at the start you may have problems. But get a business account at a bank and have cheques printed with a company name and you solve those problems. See, it turns out that wholesale suppliers are trying to protect their retailers by ensuring that they don’t sell direct to customers. Once you produce a business cheque then they are well off the hook. Shop around for the right business back account though – the charges can sometimes be appalling.

Make sure you know as much as possible about sunglasses before you order from a wholesaler. They are not impressed if you don’t and worry that you are a direct customer. You can establish the most credibility by speaking intelligently and in the correct product “language” when you place your order. What we mean is – don’t go to a wholesaler and ask for “some polarised sunglasses please” – tell them the exact make of lens, lens colour, tint, shape that you want and the frame type that you want as well in terms of material. Speak like a retailer and you’ll be treated like a retailer.

As for finding suppliers of wholesale sunglasses. You can use word of mouth, or the Yellow Pages. Like with any “shopping” you do in your life, you must take your time to research the market and look around for the best deal.
