I wear prescription eyeglasses, can I get clip-on Sunglasses?

Clip on sunglasses serve a particular purpose – flexibility. If you have not so good eyesight, which means that you need prescription eyeglasses, then you will not just be able to put on any old pair of sunglasses as your eye problems would still exist. But if you can have a way of keeping your prescription glasses on so that you can still see as well whilst also being able to protect those eyes from the harmful effects of the sun, including glare impeding your vision and ultra violet rays causing damage, some permanent, to your eyes.

Clip on sunglasses are literally what they say on the tin. They are lenses that you can clip on to your eyeglasses, providing you with the benefits of sunglasses on top of what you are already wearing. This may sound like it looks rather clumsy, but clip on sunglasses are designed so that they don’t look too bad, and certainly don’t look too much like you actually have two lenses on. In some ways they can actually be quite convenient, because if you are moving from outdoors to indoors and outdoors again in quick succession, then you can just lift the clip on lenses up for a while, allowing you to look out of your normal eyeglasses when you need to, without that looking too clumsy either. Sometimes, the clip ons will clip onto your glasses at the sides of the frames – near the hinges, but some clip ons have been made to clip onto the bridge of your nose, which does actually look better than when they are clipped onto the side.

Clip on sunglasses can be found in all kinds of colours. You can get the grey tint, which works best to not distort any colours, being not too dark to stop you seeing, and not too light to be useless against glare, making grey the safest colour for your lenses. You can also get brownish tints, which work hard to eliminate blue light – allowing you to have more depth perception and contrast, which gives you a better view when driving particularly in changeable weather conditions. Then there are amber or yellow lenses, which offer the highest intensity of tint, meaning that if you are driving in low light you can still have protection against sun light. Rose tinted clip on sunglasses offer the maximum amount of protection against glare, which means that you will be most comfortable for the longest time wearing rose tinted lenses.

You can also get clip on sunglasses with mirror-coated lenses and with polarized lenses too. Despite all the choices though, you should remember that prescription sunglasses are also available, negating the need for them. It’s all a matter of personal choice.
