Calvin Klein himself was born in 1942, and when he was a boy taught himself how to sew and to sketch. Having developed these skills, Klein won a place at the High School of Art and Design in New York, followed by the Fashion Institute of Technology. In partnership with Barry Schwartz, his childhood friend, Klein launched his own fashion label in 1968.

Nowadays, Calvin Klein has been listed of the one of the 25 most influential people in America by Time magazine and has been dubbed with nicknames like “Calvin the Conqueror”. Calvin Klein shocked the fashion world in 1999 when he announced that he was thinking about selling his eponymous fashion house. He was going to look at developing his company through either a sale, a merger, or a strategic alliance. The fashion house had a price of $1 billion put on it, and after talks with Tommy Hilfiger amongst others got nowhere he took it off the market.

Klein has won many industry awards, even winning the title of America’s Best Designer in 1993. He has been married to the photographer and socialite Kelly Klein and has one daughter called Marci. If you want to see his collection presented then you’ll find it during New York Fashion Week.
