As early in its history as 1984, Rockport emphasised its contribution to public understanding of health issues by having one man walk through every American state, endorsing the health benefits of walking as he went. In 1992, Rockport teamed up with the American Hiking Society and organised a mammoth hike from coast to coast across the United States. Because of Rockport’s dedication to improving foot health and support, both the company as a whole and a number of its leading products have been awarded seals of acceptance by the American Podiatric Medical Association and also the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society.

This is not to say that Rockport’s shoes are merely functional.
