Girls’ prom shoes

The High School prom is one of the biggest nights of a teenager’s life, and will no doubt prove to be one of life’s most memorable evenings. There will be lots of photographs taken as mementoes, so girls want to get their outfit just right. The dress is one thing, but getting the right shoes is vital in order to look perfect on the big night.

The type of shoes you wear to the prom depends of course on the design of your dress, and the general color scheme of your outfit. Your shoes do not necessarily need to match your dress in color, but they should pick up one of the colors of your outfit. For instance, you could have a dress in one color and then have a bag, necklace and shoes in a different, but complimentary, color. Be careful not to choose two colors that clash or the overall effect of the outfit will be ruined.

If you are wearing a ballgown-style dress, you may want to investigate wearing heeled shoes, whether you prefer high or stiletto heels or something more subtle and manageable, like kitten heel shoes. The latter are considerably easier to walk and dance in than high heels.

If you are going to buy a style of shoe that you do not normally wear, such as high heels, try to break them in gradually in the weeks before the prom. Remember that you will be walking around and dancing for the majority of the evening, so it would be a shame to be stuck with uncomfortable new shoes. If you can wear them to some sort of party or social event before the big night, that would be great practice.

Boys’ prom shoes

Although boys have it easier than girls when planning their outfit for the prom, it is still important to get the right shoes, and to ensure that they are a style that matches your suit.

If you are going to buy a new pair of shoes for the prom, patent black leather shoes with laces (rather than velcro) will look great with a black dinner jacket or good black suit. If you are not planning on buying new shoes, make sure you clean and shine your regular shoes to make them look like new shoes. Unless you are trying to make a fashion statement, wear shoes in a color that matches your suit, and remember that brown or navy blue shoes generally do not look good with black trousers.

Both girls and boys can buy their prom shoes online, although you must make sure you are buying them in a size and style that is comfortable and allows you to walk naturally. You may never wear them again, but it is definitely worth getting them right on the night.
