Basic Instructions For Making Your Own Hemp Necklace

Making a hemp necklace is a great way to add to your jewelry collection, not only is it relatively easy to make but it is also really cheap. Once you have mastered this basic design you can let your creative juices flow and move on to some more advanced designs. Have fun!

Here are some basic instructions on how to make a Hemp Necklace:
(Don’t stress if you make a mistake as you can easily undo the knots and then start again).

What you will need:

A ball of Hemp twine or cord (1 mm diameter hemp cord is a good option, however, you can use other thickness/types of cord)

Steps to make your hemp necklace:

1. Measure the length around your neck and multiply it by twelve.

2. Cut two strands of twine equal to that in step two.

3. Fold the two strands in the middle over your index finger on your left hand and make an overhand knot.

4. Secure the loop of the knot under a heavy object, like a large book, television or chair leg. This will hold it in place as you work on the four free strands.

5. Separate the four strands so you have a single strand on the left, the right and then two strands in the centre.

6.Take the right strand and lay it over top of the left strand and to the right of the middle strands. Pull this same strand under the position where the other sections meet and through the center of the figure four.

7. Pull the left strand tight with the right hand and the right strand tight with the left hand. This will make a knot just below the knot that holds the two strands together.

8. Then repeat always starting with the strand that is now on the left. Keep repeating until the necklace is that the length you require and then make a knot at the end of the necklace to hold all the strands in place.
