Gift certificates are a great way of giving someone a present when you are not sure quite what they want, or you don't want to risk buying them something that they may have already. They are issued by stores or merchants to be redeemed against goods or services provided by them.

For instance a certificate issued by a jewelry store can be used in full or part payment of jewelry sold by that store.
