Some people believe that Fathers' Day was invented by greeting card retailers and manufacturers but it was actually established in the US by a woman who had attended a Mothers' Day service and was inspired to start a festival for fathers. The first Fathers' Day celebration was held in 1910. Fathers' Day is held on the third Sunday of June. This is an occasion for children to show their appreciation of their fathers through cards and gifts.

Younger families may like to band together to come up with a more personalised or unique Fathers' Day gift. One idea would be to cook a family meal to eat together. Every person in the family has to cook a dish except Dad. If the weather is nice, throw a barbecue in his honor and invite round close friends and family.
