Chocolate has always been a favourite with young and old alike. Gourmet chocolate gifts are a simple yet stylish present that appeal to people as a luxurious treat that they wouldn't necessarily think to get for themselves.

Luxury and gourmet chocolate gift boxes

Luxury chocolates come in different forms: truffles, pralines, creams, with nuts, with fruit, caramels or solid chocolates. Baskets and boxes contain a selection of luxury chocolates. Truffles are a smooth-textured blend of butter, cream, chocolate and sugar that is used as a filling for chocolate sweets. Pralines have a filling made with ground nuts and chocolate which has a smooth, creamy texture. Other chocolates containing nuts usually have one whole nut such as an almond, hazelnut or Brazil nut in solid chocolate or in a chocolate shell with a caramel filling. Fruit chocolates have a blend of cream, butter and fruit for a creamy, fruit filling, or can have pieces of dried fruit in them. Liquor chocolates have different liquor-flavoured fillings, for instance whisky or brandy.

The chocolate used can be white chocolate, dark chocolate or milk chocolate. Dark chocolate has the most cocoa content and can be slightly bitter which appeals more to those who don't like sweet, rich foods. Milk chocolate has milk added to it and is the most common and most popular type of chocolate. White chocolate does not contain powdered cocoa beans which is why it isn't brown, and is made from cocoa butter (fat extracted from the cocoa beans), sugar and milk. White chocolate is quite sweet and doesn't have such a distinctive flavour as milk or dark chocolate.

Shops or websites selling chocolates have gift boxes in different sizes. The customer can select a pre-packed gift box or can order a custom-made one when they select the chocolates they would like in the gift box. Most chocolate gift boxes are created using a cardboard carton wrapped in gold wrapping paper with ribbons but it is possible to buy chocolates in wooden boxes for a really special gift.
