Although diamond is the toughest substance known to man, using a chlorine-based or abrasive cleaner won't do your diamond any favours. Once in a while it's worth splashing out to have your diamond ring professionally cleaned with an ultrasonic cleaner.

Ammonia-based jewelry cleaners are also suitable for gold and platinum wedding ring settings. Buffing with a soft chamois will help to remove any tarnish that has built up. Jewellers will be happy to polish out any scratches on your ring's setting.

When not being worn diamonds should be stored separately from other jewelry ; either in another box or a soft cotton pouch. This is to prevent the diamond from scratching softer jewels.
