Champagne cocktails are a delightfully decadent way to celebrate a special occasion. Some chaps might feel a little self-conscious ordering one for themselves but it’s well worth overcoming such scruples, as any of these sparklers would put a smile on your face. Ladies have always enjoyed a glass of fizz with something a little bit extra to it and so should need little persuasion to head to the bar. Here are some of the top champagne cocktails:

Bellini

A very popular cocktail that some might find a little sweet for their taste. Try it and see.

1. Splash of crème de peche
2. Dash of peach bitters
3. Champagne
4. Quarter of a fresh peach

Blend the peach with the crème de peche and bitters and pour into glass. Add champagne and garnish with a peach ball in the bottom of the glass.

Black Velvet

This is a little unusual and may be an acquired taste (I’ve never quite got the hang of it).

1. 3 parts Guinness
2. 3 parts champagne

Half-fill a champagne flute with Guinness and top up with champagne. Grimace….

Bucks Fizz

It might seem a slight exaggeration to describe this as a cocktail but its popularity merits it a place in the pantheon of classic champagne mixes. This one is also extremely simple to make so there’s no excuses for not getting it right.

1. Two parts orange juice
2. Four parts champagne

You can fiddle with the proportions if you like but ideally you want more sparkling in your glass than vitamin C. Ideal at weddings but delightful on any sunny day.

Champagne Cocktail

Some things really are best kept simple. This is the classic.

1. One sugar cube
2. Angostura bitters
3. Champagne

Soak sugar cube in Angostura bitters and place in bottom of glass. Add champagne and sip slowly (or quickly). The side benefit of this is that the bitters take the edge off cheap fizz so you can budget a bit on the quality.

Kir Royale

This is one of the all-time faves and should preferably be sipped whilst in the company of some C-list celebs. It’s easy when you know how.

1. One part crème de cassis
2. Five parts chilled champagne
3. Twist of lemon or strawberry

Pour the crème de cassis into a glass and add a splash of champagne. Continue to fill the glass and add a twist of lemon or strawberry as a garnish.

The Velvet Swing

This one’s strictly for lovers. Pour before proposal and await gasps of delight.

1. Dash of cognac
2. Dash of port
3. Champagne
4. Rose petals

Pour the cognac and port into a glass and add champagne. Garnish with rose petals. Need I say more?
