Shop online for baby furniture - UK - USA
Having a baby can be expensive and buying discount baby furniture can save you a lot of money. There are plenty of places to find cheap nursery sets but you'll need to make sure you buy good quality UK equipment. Buying furniture that falls apart six months after you buy it isn't a good deal in the long run.
Planning, decorating and furnishing the nursery is one of the fun aspects of your pregnancy. Avoid doing any painting or furniture moving yourself as this can harm the baby but do go shopping - you'll have more time to do it now than after the baby is born. Don't go wild though, newborns don't need a lot of furniture and your baby won't notice his or her room for the first few months.
One way to save money is to opt for a crib right from the start rather than a Moses basket or cradle. Although they look sweet and are practical, your baby will grow out of a Moses basket quickly. Classified ads in local newspapers or supermarkets, the Internet and store sales are the best places to find discount baby furniture. Look out for ads for cribs as soon as you become pregnant and keep an eye on the baby stores for sales items.
Your baby may stay in the crib until he or she is three years old so you need to consider what you're buying. Check that the gaps between the side rails are no bigger than three inches so the baby cannot get stuck between them. Both side rails should drop to about nine inches above the mattress height and have clasps at either end. Make sure the clasps are difficult enough so that an older baby cannot figure out how to release them himself.
The other main furniture you'll need is for storage. Look out for dressers or wardrobes at mainline discount furniture stores. As soon as any item is marketed as nursery furniture you'll be asked to pay a premium. So avoid the baby stores and watch out for sales at main dealers. Look out for solid furniture with smooth rounded edges so once your baby begins to crawl and walk there are less sharp edges for you to worry about.
You may also want to keep your eye out for a comfortable chair for breastfeeding and thick curtains or blinds that will help the baby sleep more easily during the day. Buy furniture that can grow with your baby. Those tiny babygros will soon turn into toddler clothes and school uniforms; planning ahead is one of the key features of finding discount baby furniture. Maximise your use and your money is much better spent.
