Apply online for a credit card - UK - USA
Egg is one of the big players when it comes to UK credit cards and accounts. This is a major achievement considering the company was only launched in 1998. The company has marketed itself heavily over the past few years and, as a result, now boasts a significant customer base, with well over two million people applying.
Egg offers a range of financial services, and its three main areas are banking, insurance and investment. Egg plc was listed on the stock exchange in the year 2000; around 20% of it is now owned by its shareholders, with the lion's share of the company currently held by Prudential plc. There are approximately 2,000 members of staff employed by Egg, all based in one of its three UK offices, Derby (head office), Dudley and London.
So why has this little green card become so popular?
To start with, it gives cardholders great introductory benefits, like 0% APR on balance transfers and purchases for up to eight months. There is no annual fee, and customers receive cash back on all purchases they make with their card.
One of Egg's other areas of strength lie in its clean, uncomplicated, user-friendly online banking site. In fact, the company is so confident that users will find it easy to manage their account online, that hard copies of statements do not get posted out. Instead, cardholders simply access their account by typing in their personal details and a password that they chose when they originally applied for card. Back copies of monthly statements are held in the account, and can be viewed quickly and easily.
Monthly payments are automatically debited from the cardholder's nominated bank account; this can either be set up as a fixed amount, or a minimum monthly amount. In addition, customers can make one-off payments if they want to repay a little extra. There are excellent tools available to help customers manage their money, such as Egg Pay and the Egg Money Manager facility.
Managing your own account online means that, not only will you have greater control over your card, but it also means that Egg do not have to pay someone to do this work for you. These cost savings are passed on to you as a customer, giving you superior deals to those offered by conventional credit cards.
