Apply online for a credit card - UK - USA
Capital One services were launched in the UK in the mid-nineties, and are a part of one of the original US credit card companies. The group as a whole has a total worldwide customer base of almost fifty million applications, translating to a whopping total of seventy million dollars worth of loans.
Capital One was originally formed as a credit card division of Signet Bank in the US, and was managed by Nigel Morris and Rich Fairbank, who is now chairman and CEO of the company as we know it today. They were the first to come up with the idea of balance transfer cards, a marketing practice that is now used by over fifty credit card companies in the United Kingdom alone.
As well as introductory features like interest-free balance transfers, this credit card is one of the few that also offers a low Annual Percentage Rate (APR) for the life of the balance that you transfer. This means that you are only charged the promotional rate until the balance you transfer is completely repaid. Only after this does the rate return to the standard APR. Other advantages of this card are that it offers a 100% internet fraud guarantee to its users, as well as a range of card designs from leopard prints to Union Jacks.
The company currently offers its customers both MasterCard and Visa cards, and there is a range of different cards available; some with balance transfer promotions, some with high credit limits, and there is even a card that has been designed with people with a poor credit rating in mind. With the latter variety, the APR is relatively high compared with the company's other cards, but it does give cardholders the opportunity to restore their credit rating so that they can eventually move on to an alternative card.
To apply for a Capital One credit card you must be at least 18 years old, or over 21 years of age if you are applying for a Platinum card. All applicants must reside in the United Kingdom and have an income in excess of £10,000 per year.
