Doctors, nurses and care staff can't just stop working because they've got a bulging belly and so manufacturers have come up with a range of specialist maternity scrubs to ensure you'll be both stylish and comfortable while doing your rounds. Working when you're pregnant can be pretty tiring and even more so if you're on your feet a lot so it's essential to have work wear that fits well.

The choice of maternity scrubs available is a little limited though and although you'll get a choice of size and colour there isn't the same great range of patterns and fabrics available for maternity scrubs as there is for normal nursing scrubs. You can generally choose from a selection of several prints or opt for a monogram on the chest or shoulder to make your maternity uniform unique.

When buying maternity scrubs opt for a design with a comfortable waistband and either adjustable buttons or a drawstring. Maternity scrubs are usually sized quite generously so you may need to try on several sizes to find one that fits well. Plus sized maternity scrubs are also available for larger ladies.

If you're nursing you're probably doing a lot of walking and standing and you may also want to invest in some maternity support pantyhose to help prevent swollen ankles and varicose veins. A maternity support belt or brace can also be a good idea as the months roll on and can help considerably with back pain.

The good news is that maternity scrubs aren't priced much higher than normal scrubs and many retailers have a range of cheap maternity scrubs available. Check out the range of maternity uniforms at your normal scrub supplier but also take a look online as you may find cheaper prices and a wider range of styles and sizes available. For plus size maternity scrubs the best deals are usually online. Expect to pay between $22 to $25 for maternity scrub pants (you can usually get a set of two for about $36), $21 to $34 for a maternity scrub top and about $50 for a maternity scrub jacket.
