Wetting the Bed - Incontinence Bed Pads from 15p. Wash & disposable. Trade & Public.Bed Wetting alarms are proven to be one of the most effective ways to combat your child’s bed wetting permanently. They are designed to wake the child at the first sign of moisture, and train their bodies to wake up during the night when they need to go to the toilet.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, the use of a Bed Wetting alarm provides a cure rate of between 60-90%.
There are three different types of alarms available on the market today – wired, wireless or mattress pad.
A traditional wired alarm is the most popular option that people choose. It features a sensor that either clips to the underwear; is sewn into the pajamas; or is attached to a mini-pad. A cord (usually about 2ft long) then runs from the sensor and attaches to a small alarm box which is attached to the shoulder of the pajamas. Some manufacturers make various features for this type of alarm, such as a vibration mode, and the ability to record your own choice of sound into the unit to wake up the child.
A wireless alarm works in the same fashion as the wired alarm, except that there is no cord running from the sensor to the alarm unit. The alarm can be placed next to the bed, which is ideal for children who are scared by loud noises (especially if it is from a device attached to their body).
A mattress pad alarm is designed for children who do not like wearing an alarm on them. It is fitted under the sheets on the bed and has a sensor in the pad which will detect moisture. The alarm box is clipped to either the sheets or the end of the bed.
A common complaint for older bed wetters is that the Bed Wetting alarm cords are too short to fit properly on their pajamas. A solution for this is using a wireless alarm, such as the Potty Pager or Malem alarms which are self contained, all-in-one-units.
Prices for alarms start at around $70 for a personal alarm, with mattress pad alarms costing anywhere between $70 and $170.
