One way to reduce fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth and nose is to have implants inserted into the face. This may sound like a dramatic procedure but the results can be quite staggering, with patients looking ten or twenty years younger following surgery.
How do implants reduce wrinkles?
The implant that surgeons are currently using is called UltraSoft, however due to the fast-evolving nature of the anti-wrinkle industry, new variations are expected to be introduced in the near future.
UltraSoft uses the technologies developed by W. L. Gore and Associates, the company that created GORE-TEX®. Although GORE-TEX® is best known for its use in protective outdoor fabrics and clothing, it has also been used to produce millions of medical and health-related products and implants over the last thirty years; from c ardiothoracic products that actively seal blood vessels after surgery, to futuristic bandages and casts that are able to withstand water damage.
The implants are suitable for 'fattening out' thin lips and deep lines between the nose and mouth, but cannot be used to ease the appearance of scar tissue or to reduce fine lines and wrinkles on the cheeks and forehead.
The UltraSoft implant has been rigorously tested and is not known to cause any adverse or allergic reactions in patients. However should any problems occur, one of its advantages is that it can easily be removed.
This can be highly beneficial should a patient's face shape change, either due to gradual thinning or fattening of the face over time or a sudden change caused by an accident or injury. In either case, it may be necessary to remove the implant and insert a new sac.
