Laser treatment can be used to improve a number of skin wrinkle complaints and issues besides wrinkles, namely scar tissue, excessive hair growth, tattoo and birthmark removal; reduction, flushing, acne, skin pigmentation problems, removal of moles, sunspots and spider veins.
Where lasers and wrinkle removal are concerned, only specific types of laser treatments will be effective as a cure. Blood vessel lasers, for instance, can help improve very fine lines but if the wrinkles are deep and the skin is dark, whether naturally or through excessive sun exposure, then the results will be limited.
Another treatment that is best suited to lighter skins is photo-rejuvenation, or Intense Pulsed Light Rejuvenation as it is also known. This process involves having a flash lamp directed at the face to actively heat and 'absorb' problem areas like fine lines and thread veins. Using this type of laser on dark skins can cause serious pigmentation damage and it should therefore always be tested on a discreet patch of skin in advance.
An alternative options is to use long-pulsed laser wrinkle removal systems which can be used on any skin type to remove fine lines and mild scarring.
Laser resurfacing
For relatively deep wrinkles and lines, a procedure known as laser resurfacing is often administered. This form of wrinkle removal was actually developed in the 1980s but new variations of the original technique are constantly being devised.
Laser resurfacing works by physically removing layers of sun-damaged or wrinkled skin from the face or body. The body's natural reaction is to create a new layer of healthier-looking skin in its place, giving the treated area a much younger, fresher look.
