Forehead wrinkles tend to manifest themselves either as deep vertical lines, often between the eyebrows, or as a series of horizontal lines below the hairline and across the entire forehead. They are also called frowning wrinkles. This page contains information on forehead wrinkles, prevention information, tips and cures.
Causes of wrinkles on the forehead
As with all wrinkles, there are genetic causes - i.e. you are getting older and therefore your skin's elasticity is getting weaker - and there are environmental causes, such as exposure to sunlight, diet and lifestyle.
Forehead wrinkles are not helped by any of these factors; however certain movements are known to make the lines worse. The vertical lines, for example, are made worse if you frown or squint a lot. The horizontal lines are brought about by repeated creasing of the forehead muscles, often through simply smiling and laughing.
Prevention of wrinkles on the forehead
There are the golden wrinkle rules - wear sunscreen, don't use tanning beds, don't smoke, and don't drink to excess - but there are some things you can do to specifically target and prevent wrinkles to the forehead. First of all, you need to be aware of how your face moves when you speak, laugh, frown, etc. Sit in front of a mirror next time you'e on the phone and watch out for any movements that cause your forehead to crease. It is these movements that will eventually lead to static wrinkles. To stop them from forming, you'll need to retrain your facial muscles so that the creases are minimized.
Cure
One of the most effective ways of remedy severe forehead wrinkles is to undergo Botox® treatment. There is, however, a possible side-effect of using these injections to correct forehead wrinkles; occasionally other muscles around the face become stronger as a result of the treatment and can cause new lines elsewhere.
