Acne is a common skin problem which is usually noticeable around the face and neck area of the body, where blemishes occur. These blemishes are caused by a comedo in the skin, which is a large hair follicle overloaded with oil, dead skin cells and bacteria. This comedo nestles under the skin waiting for the ideal conditions to become inflamed. This is where more oil gathers and causes the area to swell, and as the white blood cells come to fight the swelling the comedo becomes inflamed.

Most sufferers of acne can relate it to their hormone levels or genetics, as both these factors could be a reason why the person produces a large amount of oil. Hormone levels can be regulated by different medical solutions prescribed by a doctor or dermatologist, however genetics is a much more difficult task to control. Sometimes a regular two-step daily maintenance system would suffice rather than three, removing the toning aspect. This two step daily system would refer to the need to cleanse and moisturise the skin. Thus preventing the build up of the comedo by reducing excess oil and dirt from the surface.
Firstly, as acne can often be very painful it is important to use gentle products which will not further aggravate the skin. Where possible sufferers should use holy natural and homeopathic solutions. Cleansing should be achieved by using a soap free ph neutral product, which wipes away grease and dirt from the face, reducing clogging. Cleansers that are hypo allergenic for example baby products are most recommended.
Secondly, moisturisers should be light, allowing the skin to breathe, reducing the risk of blocked pores.
For areas that have become affected, dabbing with tea tree oil, which a natural antiseptic can reduce infection. It is extremely important not to touch the skin as the hands are constantly an attachment area for bacteria, dirt and grease.
Some acne sufferers may wish to use a camouflage concealer to cover up outbreaks, especially the most serious sufferers. There are many various products on the market that are available, the product should be water based and match the customers skin care type.
As well as considering products and treatments a healthy well balanced diet is also beneficial. Drinking plenty of water, eating fresh fruit and vegetables hydrates the skin, supplying it with all the natural ingredients required to reduce acne breakouts.
Acne skin care can also be referred to as serious skin care and proactive skin care. These products offer solutions to assist in the prevention of acne. Products available include AcnEase, Stridex and Neutrogena-On the spot. There are also treatments available to reduce scarring once the problem has been cleared such as dermabrasion and chemical peels.
