HGH Supplement: Fact Vs Fiction

Today HGH supplements are big business and it won’t take you long to realise that the Web is filled with contradictory claims and counterclaims. Unscrupulous retailers pray in individual’s insecurities with fantastic product claims that often contain little or no truth. There’s plenty of solid science behind the use of HGH supplements; however, there’s also plenty of quackery and marketeering.

If you come across any of the following ‘claims’ take them with a large pinch of salt:

FDA approved HGH supplement
In 1996 the Food and Drug Administration approved the adult use of Human Growth Hormone for the treatment of Somatotropin Deficiency Syndrome. This was taken by many as a carte blanche to advertise HGH for a variety of other indications (as it had effectively been deemed a safe drug). Indeed any HGH supplement that you come across may well be FDA approved, but that doesn’t mean that it has any proven efficacy in terms of anti-ageing/ muscle gain, etc…

World’s Strongest/ Most Potent HGH Supplement
Most commercially available supplements contain trace elements of HGH that will do absolutely nothing whatsoever. For reliable advice visit your physician and ask for a recommended product. Otherwise do as much homework as possible and read in between the small print. A product boasting 2000 ng/ml of HGH actually contains just 1% of the average prescribed dose.

Contains genuine HGH
As HGH is a prescription drug it’s highly unlikely that any supplement sold without a prescription will actually contain HGH; otherwise it would be illegal to sell the product. The exception to the rule are supplements containing less than 2001ng/ml which the UK government deems as so diluted that it’s no longer a ‘drug’ (although it may have some homeopathic value).

HGH is proven to decrease fat and increase muscle
In 1990 Dr Rudman carried out a landmark study measuring the effects of HGH injections on patients’ ratio of body fat: muscle mass. Indeed the results echo the above statement; however, the study focused solely on intravenous HGH and nothing has been scientifically proven with regard to sprays, powders and pills.

Easily absorbed oral HGH
Human Growth Hormone is one of the body’s most complex proteins, consisting of 191 amino acids. HGH can’t survive in the digestive tract (and therefore can’t effectively be taken orally) and must be administered intravenously.
