Oral HGH

Human Growth Hormone is controlled substance that can only be legally bought in the UK with a valid prescription. Several clinical trials have indicated that HGH injections may have some ‘anti aging’ properties, such as; increasing lean muscle and decreasing bodily fat. However, the scientific community at large remains dubious about the efficacy of oral HGH supplements. In fact, there are no independent studies to support any of the claims made about oral HGH (whether sprays or tablets).

The scientific world’s scepticism is based on a number of points, including the following:

HGH is a prescription-only substance and cannot be sold ‘over the counter’. However, there is a level where the HGH content is so diluted that the FDA no longer requires a prescription. Legally no oral HGH supplement can contain more than 2000ng per ml (approximately one percent of the injected adult dose). As such a concentration it’s highly unlikely that the body would even be able to detect the hormone supplement.

The second main stumbling block relates to HGH absorption. Even if oral supplements did contain significant amounts of HGH (they don’t), there’s still a question mark hanging over the issue of how the HGH is supposed to enter the bloodstream.

HGH sprays are administered sublingually (two or three ‘squirts’ underneath the tongue) because the oral mucosa is cited as being “especially absorbent”. However, HGH is too large a molecule to pass through any cell membrane, which is why it’s prescribed as an injection. The hormone insulin is of comparable size and major pharmaceutical companies have spent a fortune trying to develop to an effective spray to save diabetics the grind of daily insulin shots. Unfortunately their efforts have been proved fruitless. Several suppliers claim they have developed “unique delivery systems” to overcome this problem, although they offer little in the way of clinical data. HGH tablets face a similar problem. Human Growth Hormone is a complex protein, which quickly gets broken down into amino acids once in the digestive tract. Hence it is no longer HGH.

In short, HGH can only be effectively administered via injection. However, a number of oral HGH supplements aim to work by stimulating the pituitary gland to produce more HGH (and not by providing the body with more HGH directly).
