Weider exercise equipment consists of one of the best known home gym systems thanks to extensive media coverage and intense competition with its nearest rival, Bowflex.
Weider is just one of four name brands developed and manufactured by Weider Nutrition International. The products that dominate the company's sales are vitamins, supplements and sports nutrition products which are distributed throughout the world. Weider Health and Fitness established three independent business divisions in 1989: Sporting Goods, Nutrition and Publications. Since then it has gained a reputation as one of the leading companies in strength training supplies.
The Weider brand is synonymous with strength training. The Weider home gym, known as the CrossBar, has become one of the most popular exercise machines in the US. The main selling point has been the use of flexible metal bars and cables instead of weight stacks to create resistance. This innovative design means the gym is lighter, less bulky and almost half the price of those using weight stacks. Some users say that weight stacks provide a more even resistance than metal bars but the savings made on the cost of Weider home gyms more than makes up for it.
The Weider CrossBar Platinum is a more advanced version of the CrossBar and comes with digital resistance control and pre-programmed work outs. Unfortunately there have been a number of complaints about the digital control breaking within a few weeks of purchase. Another complaint is that it is difficult to assemble and the users manual is not as clear as it could be.
Weider are not the only manufacturer to use metal bars in their exercise equipment. The closest competing brand is Bowflex which is manufactured by Nautilus. Both machines have similar features and use the concept of bendable bars to create resistance. The main difference is the price. Weider exercise equipment costs between £300 and £1,000 whereas the Bowflex home gym costs between £1,000 and £1,600.
Weider exercise equipment has received very positive reviews on websites such as Epinions. Most users say that when compared to the Bowflex, the Weider CrossBar is usually favored because it is considerably cheaper but has just as many good quality features.
