Having been on the market for the treatment of obesity since the 1950s (and the hydrochloride version since the early 1970s), phentermine is an appetite suppressant, which works by telling your brain that you are not hungry and creating a feeling of fullness. Phentermine is one of the most commonly prescribed diet pills / weight-loss supplements issued by doctors. The best results are achieved when the use of this medication is combined with a healthy diet and exercise. Once the use of this drug is ceased, it is important to continue with a diet and exercise plan in order to maintain the weight loss, or also continue to losing weight.
Dosage: Taken orally, this product can be used in a couple of different ways, depending on each person. A 30mg capsule should decrease the appetite for anywhere between 12 to 14 hours. It can either be taken: 1 capsule half an hour before breakfast on an empty stomach, or alternatively 2 hours after breakfast. It should not be taken late in the day as the drug may cause insomnia.
Phentermine Side Effects: A list of side effects can occur when using these pills. These include dry mouth, nausea, sleeplessness, headache, stomach upset, constipation and irritability. More serious side effects include increased blood pressure, heart palpitations, restlessness, dizziness, tremor, insomnia, shortness of breath, chest pain, dizziness, swelling of the legs – consult your doctor immediately should you experience any of these side effects.
Precautions: Consult your doctor if you have any of the following conditions before you start taking this medication: high blood pressure, overactive thyroid, glaucoma, diabetes or emotional problems. Do not take it if you are also using a Monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor. Also limit alcohol use, as this can cause dizziness.
Because this medication can cause a dry mouth, make sure you pay special attention to oral hygiene so to prevent developing gum disease.
