Unfortunately there are no real shortcuts when it comes to finding the best contact lens deals and discounts on the Internet.
It's really a matter of shopping around. On the plus side however, E-commerce tends to be much less taxing than high street shopping and the savings greater.
In the same way that ‘you can't judge a book by looking at it's cover', companies shouldn't be judged on the merits of their website alone. A slick and polished supplier's site doesn't necessarily mean that the product will be anymore expensive (in the way that lavish high street stores tend to charge more).
Similarly it's worth putting all notions of who is, and who isn't, expensive out of your mind when you go shopping online. Often you'll find big name suppliers and well known high street stores offer very competitive discounts when shopping online.
Online suppliers are often able to offer customers the same product at substantially lower prices (compared with the high street) because they have lower running costs and potential access to a much larger market. In a bid to redress the Internet's competitive advantage, several high street stores will now match the best online price you can find, so once you've done your window shopping on the web it might well pay to phone your local store.
One area where the high street is likely to remain more attractive to consumers than the Internet (and for some time to come) is service. It's often easy to confuse ‘the best price' with ‘the best deal', but for many customers the level of aftercare and the ability to put any questions directly to an eye-care specialist are as important as the product itself.
It's also worth bearing in mind that most high street branded products are supplied by one of a handful of major manufactures and simply repackaged - at an additional cost. It doesn't take much detective work (just look at the prescription on the side of the box) to find the manufacturer's name - and then you can really begin to shop around.
If you are in any doubt whatsoever about who manufactures your lenses consult your eye-care professional.
