Wholesale aromatherapy products are generally cheaper to purchase than regular products. This is because they usually come directly from the manufacturer, and therefore ‘middle-man’ costs are avoided, as are sales tax charges.
How does wholesale differ from retail?
Wholesale is the exchange of bulk goods from one party to another. The price is set slightly higher than the production cost and no sales tax is applied. Retail on the other hand refers to the sale of goods at a significantly inflated price, to which sales tax is also applicable. The unit price is not affected by quantity. So in terms of aromatherapy products, aromatherapy wholesalers will charge a lower unit cost and will sell in bulk, where as an aromatherapy retailer will sell you goods at a set, taxable price, regardless of whether you buy one candle or a hundred candles!
How do I know what savings I’m getting by buying aromatherapy products through a wholesaler?
Most wholesalers will give customers a guide as to how much their products would cost if bought from a retailer. This is known as the Retail Price, or the Recommended Retail Price (RRP). Of course, prices will always differ slightly from one retailer to another so this guide is simply a suggested price to assist you with your purchasing decision.
Can I expect the same quality of goods when I buy wholesale aromatherapy products?
Just because you are buying through a wholesaler does not mean that you should have to compromise on the quality of the goods. A few guidelines for buying aromatherapy products are outlined below. These should apply to any items you buy, whether wholesale or retail.
1. Both the modern name and the Latin name of essential oils should be clearly labeled, as should the volume of the contents and the country from which the oil originated.
2. Aromatherapy oils should be totally ‘pure’; i.e. nothing should be added to or removed from the oil. Any oils diluted with carrier or base oil should be labeled as such.
3. Any bottles containing aromatherapy oils should be made of dark glass. You will probably find that most manufacturers use blue or amber glass bottles.
