Incorporating essential oils products into your everyday life and achieving a successful aromatherapy skin care routine is easy. Read on to find out how to make your own aromatherapy cleansers, toners and moisturisers.
A good skin care routine, combined with a well-balanced and varied diet, is essential if you want to maintain healthy looking skin. Although your exact beauty routine will depend upon the type of skin that you have, this is generally comprised of cleansing, toning and moisturising the skin each morning and every night before you go to bed. Aromatherapy oils can be used to create these beauty products and the following information and recipes should help you to get started.
Aromatherapy cleansers and toners
These are easy to prepare. First prepare your flower water by adding 20 to 30 drops of essential oil (either one type of oil or a blend of oils) to 100ml filtered water. Next add a few drops of witch hazel. This will improve the toning properties of the solution because witch hazel is an excellent astringent. If you wear a minimal amount of make up, this blend will give you an excellent one-step cleanser and toner; if however you need a slightly more ‘powerful’ cleanser, try adding natural glycerin to the mix (between fifteen and twenty-five percent of the total amount of flower water used).
Aromatherapy moisturisers
A good facial moisturiser will not only nourish and hydrate the skin, but it should also allow the skin to breathe so that the pores remain clear and spots and blemishes are avoided. Below is an excellent recipe for an aromatherapy moisturiser which should do exactly that…
Aromatherapy cold cream recipe
120ml almond oil
15g beeswax (beads or grated)
50ml rose water
10 drops essential oil (rose oil is recommended for this recipe, but feel free to use an alternative if you are sure it is suitable for your skin)
Combine the almond oil and the beeswax in a large glass bowl. Place the bowl over a pan of warm water and keep on a low heat until the ingredients are completely blended together. Next, gently warm the rose water in a separate bowl and then gradually pour into the bowl containing the beeswax and almond oil, beating with a fork until all the ingredients are combined. Lastly, slowly stir the essential oil into the blend, transfer to a pot or jar and leave in the refrigerator until completely set.
