Aromatherapy diffusers and essential oil diffusers come in a vast array of product colours, designs and forms. When an aromatherapy diffuser is used in conjunction with the right essential oils, it can offer the user a range of benefits, from assisting in relaxation to bringing about alertness. Diffusers can also help users to sleep better and can assist in lifting the spirit at times of fatigue or depression.
Diffusers are also an excellent way to create the desired atmosphere, whether to make a room more romantic, relaxing or harmonious, or just to diffuse cigarette smoke or the smell or animals and pets.
Below is a list of just a few of the different types of aromatherapy diffusers that are available:
Fan diffuser – this is a heat-free product, and works by blowing cold air through a pad soaked in aromatherapy oil. These are usually powered with electricity - either by plugging directly into an electric socket or by using standard batteries.
Tip: even if you intend to plug the diffuser into a wall socket, you might find it helpful to fit batteries into the item, as it is relatively light weight and can be difficult to balance.
Nebulizing diffuser – this is where air is literally pumped through the container to disperse the aromas of the essential oils into the room. This product does not involve the use of heat and come in a variety of shapes and sizes.
Tea candle (or tea light) diffuser – a small plate or cup of water containing a few drops of aromatic oil is placed above a tea candle (also known as a tea light). The heat from the candle diffuses the oil’s aroma via steam.
Lamp ring diffuser – when this pottery ring is placed onto a lamp bulb or light bulb, the heat diffuses the essential oils that are contained within it out into the room.
Car diffuser – this works just like a fan diffuser but is plugged into the vehicle’s cigarette lighter to diffuse the aroma.
Necklace diffuser – these are simply small vials containing aromatherapy oils that can be worn like a regular piece of jewellery.
