Acne skin care is very easy once you know what to do and how often to do it. As well as knowing what will help to get rid of your acne it also helps to know what will aggravate it. Here are a few acne skin care pointers to help win your battle against blemishes.
1. Gently Wash Your Face
Gently cleanse your face twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. Don’t over wash or scrub your face, as this can dry out the skin and irritate blemishes. If you do suffer from blackheads, try using a mild facial scrub once a day to exfoliate the skin. This will help to remove any dead skin cells and dirt that may be clogging the pores. Always use a clean towel or face cloth as dirty or damp towels can act as a breeding ground for bacteria.
2. Steam facials
Once a week try a steam facial to help unclog the pores. Put a kettle full of freshly boiled water into a basin with a few drops of tea tree oil. Steam your face over the basin and cover your head with a towel for at least five minutes. When finished splash your face with cold water and towel dry.
3. Avoid Touching Your Skin
Avoid touching or rubbing your blemishes as this can irritate them and spread bacteria and as tempting as it may be, don’t squeeze, pick or pop your zits, this can also spread the infection further and even result in scarring. If you really can’t resist squeezing them, make sure your hands are clean and use a sterilized needle to pop them instead of squeezing them with your fingers.
4. Cosmetics and Hair Products.
All cosmetics are capable of clogging the pores which can lead to blemishes. However, it can help if you choose oil free cosmetics or those that are labelled ‘noncomedogenic’ (those that don’t promote the formation of closed pores). Always make sure you take all of your makeup off before going to bed. As well as avoiding oily skin care products try to avoid oily hair products that might eventually spread over the forehead, causing blemishes.
5. Avoid Sun Tanning and Sun Burn
Certain medications used to treat acne can make a person more sensitive to sunlight (photosensitive) and more prone to sunburn. A suntan may initially make your blemishes less visible and it may help to dry the skin, but long term there are serious risks involved with excessive sun exposure, such as developing skin cancer.
