Some psychics appear to offer their readings for free, but usually there is no such thing as a free lunch. One exception to this is a medium in a small town in the UK who offers gives free sittings but suggests that her clients could make a donation to a local animal charity. However cases like these are few and far between.

Generally psychics will offer free sample readings to encourage people to buy a full reading. This can be a good thing as it allows the potential client to see what sort of information they will be getting, and to assess the psychic. This is particularly useful if the person is new to consulting a psychic and is unsure of what to expect.

Sometimes phone psychic chat lines will offer the first three minutes free with an option to extend the time and change it to a paid reading. This sounds good in theory but usually the first three minutes are taken up with the introductory blurb intended to keep the customers on the phone longer and whet their appetite for more.

There is also the option of signing up to a free psychic chat room. This allows psychics to chat for free and can be a way of a potential client to get to know a psychic before booking a reading.

Horoscopes tend to be free and you can also get free online tarot readings, I Ching, runes or angel card readings. These usually work but asking you to focus on a question or particular issue while clicking on a button and this will generate the cards, runes, or hexagrams and there will be a general interpretation which you need to apply to your own life. There are also free online ESP (extra-sensory perception) tests which test for precognition, which is the ability to perceive future events.

Astrology websites often give you free sample reports or readings based on your star sign. They also tend to have free daily horoscopes which are very vague and could be interpreted any way you want. The trouble is that these are based on the month of your birth but do not take into consideration the time and day which can affect how the planets movements relate to you.
