Crystals and gem stones have many healing properties and powers. Crystals focus energies from the earth and amplify our inner energies at chakra points. Rose quartz, amethyst and clear crystal quartz are naturally adapted for healing work. However different crystals are suitable for different types of work. Dark crystals remove pain and clear crystals are good for energizing and removing blockages but you need to experiment and find what works best for you.

Charging and cleansing healing crystals: crystals need to be cleansed and charged for healing work. Sprinkling them with salt, washing them in clear running water, and leaving them out in the sun or moonlight, removes negative energies. Use a clear pendulum-shaped crystal for charging your crystals, visualizing positive energy flowing into them.

It is believed that the right hand is controlled by the left side of the brain which tends to be the dominant, assertive side: therefore hold your energising crystals in your right hand for healing and use clockwise movements. To remove pain or to calm someone use the left hand, which is controlled by the right "feeling" side of brain, and use anti-clockwise movements.

Crystal chakra healing: use a clear pendulum-shaped (long cylinder shaped to focus energies) crystal passed over the body to locate the chakras, noting points where the pendulum spirals as this may indicate a chakra. If the pendulum feels heavy or vibrates slightly at any point then the chakra may be blocked.

Root or base chakra: associated with legs, feet and skeleton and large intestine. Use dark red crystals such as red jasper or red tiger's eye, garnet, onyx.

Sacral chakra: use orange crystals such as carnelian, amber, jasper. Haematite or moonstone can also be appropriate.

Solar plexus chakra: golden amber, citrine, yellow jasper, topaz.

Heart chakra: heart chakra crystals include pink/green stones from brilliant green malachite, aventurine, jade, moss agate, pink; rose quartz - pink stones are associated with the skin and are good for rashes or skin irritations. Emotions tend to be reflected in the skin, and pink stones are also good for emotional problems. A red or orange crystal directed clockwise over the heart chakra can help with poor circulation.

Throat chakra: lapis lazuli, turquoise, aquamarine, blue lace agate. Running a throat crystal around throat, neck and shoulders can alleviate tension. Use anti-clockwise movements to ease aching muscles in shoulders or neck.

Brow chakra: Amethyst, sodalite and peacock's eye (bornite). Hold the crystal between your eyes. Using an amethyst in the affected area can ease headaches. Sharpen intuition by rubbing brow crystal clockwise and letting sensations come.

Crown chakra: Clear quartz or deep violet amethyst banded with white, or purple sugilite.

A crystal can be used to locate the source of the pain. This may be somewhere other than where the pain is felt, for instance a migraine may be linked to a food allergy. Move the crystal over the body in small circular movements starting from the affected area until you encounter heaviness or wild movements indicating negative force.
