This could go on for some time with the growing implication that you’re an idiot to turn down this amazing once-in-a-lifetime chance.
This is where the evening can start to take on a truly nightmarish tinge as they crank up the sales pitch in one last desperate attempt to make a sale and boost their commission. They’ll probably make a final offer and claim it’s only valid for a day. There are even accounts of marathon negotiation sessions lasting entire afternoons, only to end up with the threat of violence and customers literally having to push salespeople out of the door.
It’s unlikely that a reputable local company will put you through the same ordeal and you can sidestep many of the problems outlined above by asking the salesperson if they are working on commission from the outset. Once you’ve got a quote the chances are that you’ll be exhausted, but that’s not the time to give up. Ring around a few other companies and get at least three quotes before you make any firm decisions.
