For those who grew up with the imperial system, these tables can help you convert metric to imperial and vice versa.
One metre consists of 100 centimetres (cm) and 1,000 millimetres (mm). One thousand metres make one kilometre. In the tables below, to work out for instance how many centimetres you would need to be the equivalent of 18 inches multiply 18 by 2.54, ie look for one inch in the table below and multiply the number of inches by the number in the metric column given as centimetres. Imperial to metric conversion can never be exact so pick either the imperial or metric system to work with, and stick with that system throughout. Conversion figures below are given to the nearest two decimal points and are approximate values only.
