The Bristol Balloon Fiesta is undoubtedly one of Britain 's premier balloon festivals. The festival is an aerial enthusiast's paradise and includes events such as a mass balloon launch, low-level aero acrobatic displays and two breathtaking night glow displays.

The festival takes place in the spectacular Ashton Court Estate on the west edge of Bristol 's city centre. Is usually held around the second week in August every year, and lasts approximately four days. As one of the largest international balloon festivals in the UK , it attracts both balloon pilots and spectators in their droves.

The main event of the fiesta is undoubtedly the dramatic mass balloon launch. Pilots all gather in the arena and fire up their burner systems, after which the balloons simultaneously launch into the heavens. Almost instantly, the sky over Bristol is transformed into a magnificent kaleidoscope of colour and motion.

As the mammoth shapes float through the atmosphere above, one cannot help but feel as if the world has suddenly been taken over by some peculiar alien fleet. The balloons range from storybook patchwork varieties to extraordinary works of art which include insects, kitchen condiments and even a giant bulldog balloon!

Another popular feature of the fiesta is the spectacular night glow event, which takes place twice during the festival. As evening falls, the burners of anchored balloons are fired up in perfect rhythm to musical symphonies. This is combined with fireworks and rockets to create a magnificent display of colour and light which can be seen for miles on end.

As well as all the hot air ballooning events, the fiesta also features a flying circus, parachute displays and other astounding aerobatic demonstrations. In addition there are also theatrical shows and rides for the kids, as well as international food stalls, dance lessons and a lively battle of the bands competition. The festival is one of the few of its kind that is structured to appeal to both young and old alike, and it can safely be said that few who attend ever leave disappointed.
