Baby backpacks are a great way of taking your baby with you on family outings with minimum fuss. Babies like to feel involved with what's going on and fresh air is important. Strollers or prams can be problematic as they can trip up passers by and are unwieldy. Negotiating steps are with these are tricky. Make sure the backpack fits comfortably and adjust the straps until it does. When the baby is in the backpack it may need adjusting again. Some parents need a bit of practice with putting the pack on and taking it off with the baby in it. The other disadvantage is that with baby carried on the back it is hard to see what is going on. The straps should be padded so they don't cut into the person wearing the carrier. The harness holding the child should also be padded so it doesn't cut into the baby's legs. Choose soft fabric that won't irritate your child's skin. Check that all the straps fasten securely. Make sure that the pack is correctly adjusted before setting off.
